8 | Resource Recycling Conference 2015: Producer responsibility in packaging?

An intriguing session at this month's Resource Recycling Conference will take a fresh look at producer responsibility, a public policy tool in which manufacturers finance or manage end-of-life concerns for the products they put in the market. Increasingly, the concept has been discussed for the product packaging realm in North America.

Presenters will explore how the concept has evolved and been implemented in Europe, touch on its feasible future in the U.S., detail the challenges from both a systems and producer perspective, and explore the role of legislation in its implementation.

The 31st International Conference on Solid Waste Technology and Management invites abstract submissions from all areas of solid waste technology and management for oral or poster presentations at the conference. The City of Austin is accepting letters of interest from recycling and reuse companies and organizations interested in locating at Austin's [re]Manufacturing Hub. This in-development industrial park is positioned to become a home for the local circular economy and aims to retain and grow zero-waste businesses. Letters of interest are being accepted until Oct. 19.

The City of Independence, Kansas is seeking proposals from qualified firms for transportation and landfill disposal service including the financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of alternative processes for the municipal solid waste (MSW) delivered to the landfill. Proposals must be submitted to the Independence City Clerk's Office by 2 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2015. For complete details click here.
