After a year of getting feedback from the public, India's government has put into place a sweeping policy meant to better manage the country's burgeoning e-waste problem. However, environmental organizations say the new measure is weak in some key areas.

2 | ESC 2011: Important message for attendees

The E-Scrap Conference team has recently received some disturbing reports that a third party housing company is contacting ESC 2011 attendees with fraudulent information. A firm called Convention Housing Services (CHS) has called several attendees to take reservations for rooms at the conference and is asking for credit card numbers. Convention Housing Services is not affiliated with The E-Scrap Conference.

Attendees making hotel arrangements should contact the Omni Championsgate Orlando directly at (407) 390-6664. The Omni is the host hotel for the conference and plenty of rooms are still available at the E-Scrap Conference rate.

3 | BAN issues annual report

The Basel Action Network has released its annual report on its 2010 operations, detailing the organization's progress on its three current campaigns, the e-Stewards Certification and financial data.

4 | Covanta to launch new e-scrap recycling venture

While there has been no formal announcement yet, energy-from-waste giant Covanta Energy is launching an electronics recycling business unit, dubbed ECOvanta, which is scheduled to open June 30.

5 | PC shipment growth revised down

Worldwide PC shipments are projected to grow by a lower-than-expected 4.2 percent in 2011, according to International Data Corporation's Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker.

An article in ZDNet saying that responsible management of e-waste is not "financially attractive" is prompting some strong rebuttals.
