2 | 2014 Recycling Innovators Forum: A platform for processors

The range of products heading to recycling facilities — typically as a result of the expansion of single-stream collection — has led the recycling industry's largest operators to rethink their processing methods. Many of the inventors vying for a combined $40,000 in prize money in this fall's Recycling Innovators Forum have proposed new ways of collecting, transporting, sorting and processing materials that can save time, money and improve quality.

Don't let your great processing proposal get left behind. The deadline for submissions to the 2014 Recycling Innovators Forum has been extended to May 30, meaning there's still time to write up and enter a short proposal.

The second annual Recycling Innovators Forum is sponsored by Alcoa, the American Chemistry Council, Coca-Cola Recycling, Resource Recycling (the parent company of this publication) and Waste Management. The competition will be held on Sept. 15, the day before the start of the annual Resource Recycling Conference in New Orleans, and will award two $20,000 prizes: one to the top idea submitted by an individual or small group of entrepreneurs, and another to the top proposal from an established company or organization. For more information about competing in, or attending, this free event, visit recyclinginnovators.com.

The committee has invited the Sustainable Packaging Coalition to review the ins and outs of this new labeling initiative, which is being rapidly adopted in the packaging world and could affect much of the plastics supply chain.
