3 | Survey finds consumers like recycled materials


The American Chemistry Council has released the results of a survey on the inclinations of consumers to purchase items made from recycled materials.

4 | Value of recovered packaging approaches record highs


Many recycling processors will be smiling in May. Early reports indicate that the prices bid for recovered plastic and aluminum packaging next month are approaching record highs. Some major suppliers are receiving more than 40 cents per pound for HDPE containers and more than 35 cents per pound for PET. Truckload quantities of baled aluminum cans have topped $1 per pound for some processors. This is just below the record price for cans, which was set in March 2008.

9 | Québec boosts diversion efforts


Québec is directing another $61 million (CA$) per capita per year to its waste reduction plan that includes landfill bans of certain materials and a continued $650 million investment in infrastructure for composting as well as other priorities, according to Recycling Canada.
