7 | Industry and supplier news


The president of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto, was on hand at this summer's opening ceremony for the expanded Petstar bottle-to-bottle recycling facility in Toluca, Mexico. The update includes equipment from Amut Group, and it allows the operation, owned by Coca-Cola and other Mexican investors, to now handle 1.5 billion PET bottles annually. Read more here.


Sims Municipal Recycling recently opened the education area of its materials recovery facility in New York City. The Recycling Education Center was developed with third to eighth graders in mind, though people of all ages can enjoy the center's interactive, hands-on exhibits and activities that show how materials are processed and then turned into new products. The Sims MRF opened last year and has a capacity of 1,000 tons per day. For more, click here.


The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) recently named Paul Brenner of Pennsylvania-based Brenner Recycling and Scott Miller of Sims Metal Management in New York City to its board of directors. Both will serve as directors-at-large through the 2016 term. Get more information here.
