AMERIPEN, the American Institute for Packaging and the Environment, has re-designed and re-launched its website. The new site aims to offer a cleaner, bolder, more comprehensive and easier-to-navigate experience. Along with the new site comes a new tagline: "Informed Packaging Policy Starts Here." Registration is now open for ISRI's 2014 Operations Forum, to be held Nov. 13-15, at the Charlotte Marriott City Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The forum caters to industry professionals who are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of scrap recycling facilities and offers programming to help recyclers design, maintain, and operate more efficient facilities. A panel of industry experts discussed the issue of recycling contamination during a session at the SXSW Eco conference, held last week in Austin, Texas. The session, "Recycling More vs. Recycling Right in America," was moderated by Sharon H. Kneiss, president and CEO of the National Waste & Recycling Association, and also featured Brenda Pulley of Keep America Beautiful, H-E-B Grocery Company's Susan Ghertner and City of Philadelphia recycling chief Phil Bresee. Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will be requesting proposals for recycling processing services to start April 1, 2016. The RFP will pertain to processing 85,000 tons per year of recyclables collected from Seattle apartments, residents and small businesses. A pre-release draft RFP is available here.
