2 | No movement for HDPE bottle recycling rate


A study released by the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers and the American Chemistry Council shows the 2013 recycling rate for HDPE bottles was 31.6 percent, identical to the 2012 rate.

The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), last month launched a program called the Circle of Safety Excellence. The member-driven effort to promote and encourage safety in the workplace asks like-minded companies to voluntarily come forward to share safety data to help boost the industry as a whole in the safety realm. At the same time, those participating firms will be recognized by ISRI for their commitment to safety. For more, go to www.isri.org.


The City of Quebec has significantly modernized its primary materials recovery facility in order to meet growing volumes of material entering the recycling stream. The update was a collaboration between the City of Quebec, operator Societe VIA and equipment manufacturer Machinex and is aimed at boosting efficiency and profitability. The project was completed earlier this year, and according to a press release from the involved stakeholders, the facility is now processing more than 38 tons per hour. 9 | Request for proposals


NYC Sanitation released an RFP (PIN 82715SW00007) that solicits proposals to load and accept containerized waste at two new Marine Transfer Stations in Brooklyn. The RFP includes a unique opportunity for proposers to include an option that incorporates a system to separate and process organic waste or other reusable portions of the waste stream that may be extracted and applied to beneficial reuse prior to final disposal. here.


Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority has released a Request for Proposals for the Processing of Recyclables in a Manner that Maximizes Diversion for the Merced County Region. Details are available here.


Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is requesting proposals for recycling processing services to start April 1, 2016. The RFP pertains to processing Seattle's 90,000 tons per year of recyclables collected from Seattle apartments, residents and small businesses. Details are available here.
