2 | Resource Recycling Conference 2015: A networking hotbed


"This was the best networking conference I've ever attended." That was the feedback offered from one industry executive at the close of this year's Resource Recycling Conference, and the upcoming edition will offer the same opportunities for key connections.

8 | Industry and supplier news


The American Forest & Paper Association recently announced its 2014 Sustainability Award winners. The Leadership in Sustainability – Paper Recovery for Recycling honor went to NewPage Corporation for its NewPage Duluth Mill Recycling Recovery Program. Head here for more.


The American Chemistry Council last week announced the winners of the 2014 Innovation in Plastics Recycling Awards, which highlight innovations in the plastics recycling industry by recognizing companies and individuals who successfully bring technologies, products and initiatives to the marketplace. The winners were Geo-Tech Polymers LLC, GreenBlue and QRS Recycling. For more, head here.


Republic Services recently began construction on what it is calling the largest "residential recycling complex" in the U.S. The 110,000-square-foot materials recovery facility will be built next to an existing 88,000-square-foot facility in Las Vegas and will utilize equipment from CP Group. The project is expected to be completed in fall of 2015 and will eventually employ 180 full-time workers. Click here to learn more.

9 | Requests for proposals


Call2Recycle, the manufacturer-backed group that manages battery take-back in North America, is seeking proposals from individuals and entities to help the group examine its processors and sorters over the next two years. For more information, email [email protected].


NYC Sanitation released an RFP (PIN 82715SW00007) that solicits proposals to load and accept containerized waste at two new Marine Transfer Stations in Brooklyn. The RFP includes a unique opportunity for proposers to include an option that incorporates a system to separate and process organic waste or other reusable portions of the waste stream that may be extracted and applied to beneficial reuse prior to final disposal. Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority has released an RFP for the processing of recyclables in a manner that maximizes diversion for the Merced County region. Details are available here.


Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is requesting proposals for recycling processing services to start April 1, 2016. The RFP pertains to processing Seattle's 90,000 tons per year of recyclables collected from Seattle apartments, residents and small businesses. Details are available here.
