ISRI finds recycling industry robustBy Editorial Staff The recycling industry is healthy, according to figures released by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc on market trends for 2010. Scrap recycling earnings are up 40 percent since 2009, according to ISRI, and the industry currently employs about 110,000 individuals. The trade group also notes that its numbers show that recycling provides benefits to other businesses. In 2010, more than 143 million tons of scrap metal, paper, plastic, glass, textiles, rubber and electronics, valued at more than $77 billion, were manufactured into specification grade commodities by U.S. scrap recycling industry for sale as feedstock material to American industrial consumers and in more than 155 countries around the world, according to ISRI. The institute also states that this activity reduces pollution and contributes $30 billion in export sales for the U.S. |
