Grant watchBy Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling From the flat lands of South Dakota all the way to the Ukraine, local organizations are scoring cash and other assistance for their local recycling programs. The South Dakota state Board of Water and Natural Resources has announced that it has awarded $3.2 million in grants and loans for solid waste projects and other local initiatives. Of the recipients, the Town of Sturgis bagged $25,000 for recycling equipment. Keep America Beautiful and Anheuser-Busch Foundation have announced the recipients of its 2011 Lend-A-Bin Grant program, which provided 3,500 recycling collection bins to 76 towns and cities in 30 states. The program is meant to help local recycling programs with collection efforts at concerts, festivals and athletic events. For a list of recipients, visit KAB's website. The Coca-Cola Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the beverage company, has awarded $9.6 million in grants to more than 40 community organizations worldwide during the third quarter of 2011, $1.3 million of which will support recycling along with other projects. Of the projects funded included Keep America Beautiful's "Collegiate Recycling Bin Grant," which got $150,000. The foundation also awarded $60,000 for a recycling oriented project sponsored by the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Birds. |
