Exports continue to rise

The volume of plastic scrap exported in July, at 440.57 million pounds, was up 12.6 percent from its June figure. When matched against its July 2010 position, the volume of exports increased by a robust 31.6 percent.

The weighted price of recovered plastic exports in July, at 22.08 cents per pound, was up 3.7 percent from its June standing. Too, when compared to its July 2010 standing, the price increased by 6.7 percent.

Through the first seven months of 2011, at 2.7 billion pounds, the volume of recovered plastics exported was up 7.9 percent from its 2010 year-to-date (YTD) figure. Also, at 21.68 cents per pound, the average price through July was up 11.1 percent from its 2010 YTD standing.

As for other exported materials, recovered paper exports, through the July 2011, experienced a 13.9 percent year-over-year (YOY) increase, to 12.33 million metric tons. And, at $179 per metric ton, the weighted average price of exported recovered paper through July was up 4.1 percent when compared to the first seven months of 2010.

Addressing ferrous scrap, the 14.05 million metric tons exported through July resulted in an 8.8 percent YOY increase. And, at $465 per metric ton, the weighted average price of exported ferrous scrap was up 53.5 percent.

Lastly, the 2.69 billion pounds of aluminum scrap exported through July 2011 equated to a 41.0 percent YOY increase. And, at 87 cents per pound, the average price of exported aluminum scrap through July was up 58.2 percent when compared to its July 2010 standing.
