CalRecycle has prepared an initial study and negative declaration regarding revised regulations for the Rigid Plastic Packaging Container program. The key regulatory changes include a lack of exclusion for buckets, tubs and clamshells; the elimination of the ability to substitute post-industrial material for post-consumer material for compliance calculations; resin switching will no longer be allowed; and new rules on retention of records. The public comment period on the IS/ND begins today and runs through Dec. 5.

Freedom Valu, a chain of convenience stores, will now offer customers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area a way to drop off their plastic bottles and aluminum cans using PepsiCo Dream Machines, which offer a way to earn rewards and support career training for U.S. veterans while recycling on the go.

Eleven contestants from the tenth season from American Idol show that they care for more than mere stardom, and have produced a public service announcement for the Plastic Pollution Coalition encouraging viewers to reduce, reuse and recycle their plastic.
