PetroChem Wire: Recycled PET prices slipped in December

By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling

Many rPET buyers experienced lower prices in December due to the combination of weak seasonal demand from beverage markets and less than enthusiastic export demand from China.

Declines in prime PET markets last month also lent support to the price erosion in recycled PET. Clear FDA pellets were still above 90 cents per pound, but prices at the upper end of the previous month's range were no longer seen. Clear flake PET prices also slipped modestly, with clear regrind for staple fiber production around 66-68 cents per pound in December. Green flake for strapping moved in the low-to-mid 60s cents per pound range.
