PetroChem Wire: PP pellet prices extended declines

By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling

Recycled polypropylene pellet prices extended their declines slightly in December, but prices for regrind and scrap held steady.

Repro homopolymer black material was in the low-60s cents per pound FOB East Coast, while homopolymer mixed color and copolymer pellet grades were closer to the mid-60s cents per pound. The tight scrap market helped support regrind prices, and black homopolymer flakes remained close to 45 cents per pound FOB U.S. East Coast, with copolymer black flakes several cents higher.

In the prime polypropylene market, inventories remain low in mid-January after producers leveled stocks in Q4 2011. Traders saw relatively few generic prime cars offered to the market. Spot HoPP in the Houston railcar market traded at 64 cents per pound FOB mid-January.
