PetroChem Wire: HIPS repro falls in April

By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling

Recent price declines seen in the generic prime markets for high-impact polystyrene were also seen in the HIPS repro market. HIPS pellet pricing was in the upper 70 cents per pound for black and white material, while mixed color pellets were in the mid 70s cents per pound range in April. These reflected drops of between two and three cents per pound.

At 60-65 cents per pound, GPPS pellet pricing remained significantly lower than HIPS, mirroring an ongoing trend in virgin markets. Regrind PS pricing was stable in April, with GPPS flake priced in the mid-to-upper 40 cents for black and mixed color and in the low 50s for natural and white material. HIPS regrind hovered around 55 cents per pound.

In the prime PS market, April contract prices were mostly discussed at a rollover to March, although May began with PS producers supporting price initiatives of two cents per pound for GPPS and HIPS.
