Apple's new MacBook not designed for recycling
Apple's new MacBook not designed for recyclingBy Henry Leineweber, Resource Recycling Apple has been making headlines this week, launching several product refreshes at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. However, most stories fail to mention the negative impact on refurbishment and recycling posed by these new devices. The new MacBook Pro is prime example, unveiled with traditional Apple fanfare and promoted as thinner, lighter and with a higher-resolution screen. These new features come at the price of recyclability, however, according to a disassembly guide on the popular repair directory iFixit. In the process of tearing apart the laptop, the iFixit team found non-upgradable RAM and hard drive units, proprietary pentalobe screws, the touted "Retina Display" fused to the laptop's casing, and battery cells that are glued to the housing. In fact, try as they did, the team was unable to remove the batteries at all, eventually giving up after several painful shocks. The design choices found in this new model are similar to ones already documented in other Apple products, such as the iPad or MacBook Air. Additionally, they are beginning to be included in designs from competitors like Asus, Acer and Samsung as well. |

Say it ain't so!!!
OOOOOoooooohhhhhh... Not designed for 'recycling'? Uh-oh... Time to circle the wagons (lobbying groups), and have a sit-in at the Capitol, no...? What to do, what to do!!!??? A good liberally-minded company like Apple, stepping out of line on greenie-recycle Marxist orthodoxy...? How can this be...? HERESY!!! Burn them at the Stake!!!
All I have to say is, you 'recycling' nuts better keep a constant eye on the CRB index and China, because if commodities decide to 'take a dive' (they're swooning right now, in case you hadn't noticed...), all of this 'recycling', 'scorecards', 'R2 (D-2...), and the rest of the fanatical Marxist greenie brigade nonsense, are going to have a very Rude awakening as your key marketshare company's business structures turn from a $profit-based motive to a $FEE-based model, just to stay Alive... And won't that be Wonderful - in a time of shrinking budgets allocations and declining $tax-revenue to pay for all this feel-good Crapola...?
Oh my...
Too much time on your hands?
Why did you waste your time reading the article if you really aren't interested in recycling? It's a recycling newsletter. They are doing their job of reporting news that is important to their stakeholders.
I hope you find what makes you happy and put your time and energy there. This clearly isn't your passion.
It is It is!!
this greenie stuff is foor real. yeah a macbook probably wont make a difference but a whole slew of electronic products made that way will. I am not liberal at all but do find envronmental concerns to be a top priority. Yes, i think a lot of recycling companies are marketing the wool over their clients eyes saying you had better do this when in fact even transparent no BS recyclers will do the same. With that said I don't think it makes recycling any less important.
