NewsBitsAccording to The Wall Street Journal, Recycle Rewards, Inc., the parent of Recyclebank, has raised $73.4 million so far in venture capital. Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc., a waste management company based in California, has announced that its recycling system will add EPS to the list of materials it collects from customers using its single-stream system. Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives continue to skirmish over flatware used in the cafeteria. After the GOP took the House, it replaced the cafeteria's compostable flatware and cups with EPS, which, according to The Wall Street Journal [1], has prompted a number of House Democrats to a pen a letter to Speaker John Boehner raising concerns about the potential health impacts of using the material for eating utensils. Students at CalTech recently completed a competition to build robots that would pick up and deposit recyclables — and smash each other to pieces, according to The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin [2]. Continental Waste Management, LLC will invest $6 million to establish a post-industrial and post-consumer recycling plant in Covington, Virginia, which will also produce plastic and wood composite projects. |
