Can manufacturers highlight recycling
Can manufacturers highlight recyclingBy Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling The next time you're done using a metal can, the Can Manufacturers Institute wants you to "Pass It On" as part of a new educational and marketing campaign aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of recycling steel and aluminum containers. Announced at Pack Expo 2011, the Pass It On campaign seeks to showcase the industry's efforts to increase recycling of its products and make its operations more sustainable. Specifically, the campaign hopes to raise awareness among consumers that metal cans can be recycled again and again, without the material losing its strength or quality, while minimizing energy use, carbon emissions and need for virgin metal in their production. The initiative comes as the U.S. recycling rate for aluminum beverage cans hit 58 percent last year, the highest rate in more than a decade. Steel food cans had a recycling rate of 67 percent, which CMI says is an all-time record. |
