Nigeria vows to crack down on e-waste importers

A government agency in Nigeria says that it plans on cracking down on importers of e-waste, which is becoming a growing problem in the country.

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency will begin taking steps to curb the import of e-waste into the West African country, reports The Nigerian Observer [1]. The paper reports that the agency will begin working with security agencies to provide more scrutiny to various ports in the country.

The Observer also noted that the NESREA has already taken some actions against companies illegally importing e-waste into the country, with some importers potentially facing life imprisonment.
