Polystyrene foam food containers make up 1.5 percent of all litter, according to a new study from consulting firm Environmental Resources Planning [1]. ER Planning aggregated data from 19 litter surveys covering 240 cities in the U.S. and Canada in developing the report.

Tigard, Oregon-based Agilyx Corporation has received Patent No. 8,188,325, which describes a method and system for converting waste plastics into a form of purified crude oil.

TetraPak and Nestle are teaming up [2] to install reverse vending machines at schools in Malaysia. School children can accumulate points for recycling bottles in the machines that can then be redeemed for prizes.
