NewsBitsYouChange Holdings Corp — a company that provides collection, purchase, refurbishment and resale of used consumer electronics under the name "youchange" — has announced the winners of its Earth Day Collection Challenge, a contest open to 30 schools in the Phoenix area that challenged participants to use the company's proprietary system to collect unwanted electronic devices. In the end, Biltmore Prep took home the Grand Prize with an average of 4.96 items collected per student giving the school a total of over $3500 for their collection efforts. Patent No. 8,195,511 has been awarded to ecoATM, which describes an electronic kiosk where a user can deposit an unwanted mobile phone for recycling. Boliden's latest copper smelting capacity expansion (previously profiled in E-Scrap News [1]) is now officially online, following a short ceremony June 1. The upgrade increases the smelter's capacity to over 132,000 tons per year. The Conservation Council of New Brunswick says its time the province got an electronics recycling program of its own, in a televised interview with CBC News [2]. |
