PetroChem Wire: Recycled PET remains under downward pressure
By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling
Prices for pellet and flake PET are under continued downward pressure in June following price declines last month. Baled prices slipped and demand from exporters to China lagged in May. U.S. PET plants have been producing at high rates, potentially creating a prime surplus and more available scrap late in the second quarter.
PET pellet prices were 5-7 cents per pound lower in May, and flake prices were 3-5 cents per pound lower. Food-contact pellets were 86-88 cents per pound for clear material at 76-78 cents per pound for green material. In the regrind market, green product for strapping and staple fiber use fell to 53-56 cents per pound. Green product for filament fiber was 58-60 cents per pound, while clear hovered closer to 66-68 cents per pound.
