AMERIPEN looks ahead to its second yearBy Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling The American Institute for Packaging and the Environment (AMERIPEN) has wrapped up its 2012 annual members meeting, confirming the priorities it laid out last year, while also unveiling a couple of other developments. AMERIPEN, an industry organization concerned with environmental packaging issues, held its annual meeting in Arlington, Virginia on June 26 and 27. At the meeting, participants voted to stay on course regarding the organization's priorities, which were identified at the previous meeting and included communicating the value of packaging, increasing the recovery of used packaging, while analyzing varied approaches and alternatives to extended producer responsibility for packaging. AMERIPEN also unveiled an educational piece titled Discover the Hidden Value of Packaging [1], a brochure that explains how packaging, when used well, helps prevent waste and save energy. AMERIPEN's Recovery Work Group also launched its Product Recovery Knowledge Map, a Web-based knowledge mapping tool designed to house data in a searchable, interactive way.
